I've successfully implemented a setup something like what you're describing I'll be happy to answer questions. I don't charge for advice. :-)

Subject: [Chugalug] OT: Consultant needed
I need to hire someone for a one-shot consulting job. We've had several
recommendations from various vendors on what we need for our primary
storage/backup solution.
Dell wants to sell us a "NAS" / File Server, CDW wants to sell us a $1000 1/2
Terabyte NAS "black box" and another semi-local vendor, who's a Dell reseller
wanted to sell us a Dell server running "Windows Storage Server 2003."
Originally it was supposed to be our domain controller AND our primary "file
server" but Dell has advised that an NAS box can't be a DC, so we're looking
at buying an small server to act as the DC in our new Windows 2003 Active
Directory as well as an NAS box of some sort, most likely.
I'd like to find someone who is NOT a hardware vendor who can help us choose
what the best option for *us* is and not what they can sell us. I asked Mike
if he could do it and he's declined since he isn't really a hardware guy,
although he did suggest a Linux box running SAMBA and a bunch of hard
drives. :-)
