Well, that will work, but it this is a machine on the mortgage-south.com
domain (Active Directory), doing so will prevent it from logging into
the domain. Your DNS isn't broken, someone just planned very, very
poorly. From that network and on those domain computers, your solution
is going to be to access it via http://www.mortgage-south.com and make
sure there are no internal aliases or hosts using www as a host name.

| I would use the "hosts" file. This would be on the client PC, where
| you're running the web browser. Just find a file called hosts (no
| extension) and add these lines:
|
| 64.124.120.15 <http://64.124.120.15> mortgage-south.com
| <http://mortgage-south.com>
| 64.124.120.15 <http://64.124.120.15> www.mortgage-south.com
| <http://www.mortgage-south.com>
|
|
| and that's it.

| So has any one dealt with the problem of trying to get to a web site
| that is virtually hosted when there is a DNS problem.
|
| How do you get to http://mortgage-south.com
| <http://mortgage-south.com/> if dns were broken on a PC or Lan.
| When I do a lookup I get 64.124.120.15 <http://64.124.120.15/>
| which is a server with 700 domains on it. I can not use the IP in
| the web browser because the server does not know what domains page
| to serve.
|
| I started down this road because the w2003 domain controller some
| one named mortgage-south.com <http://mortgage-south.com/> also and I
| did not want to rename the domain for fear of breaking something else.
|
| I thought there was an easy answer, but nothing I tried worked. So
| either I have to fix it, but I am willing to fudge it if someone has
| a trick or three.
