[Chugalug] Exchange alternative -- info

Here's an email I just got this afternoon... thought I'd pass the info along
to anyone who's interested in a linux-based Exchange alternative (it's the
one I was talking about last week... Postpath)

The devil of an Exchange 2007 upgrade is in
the details- the need for Active Directory,
routing, and public folder upgrade and
reconfiguration; the changing out of third-party
tools; the complexity of proliferating server
roles; the lack of in-place database conversion;
the need for IT retraining; and the demand for
the most powerful hardware. All these issues
contribute to making any upgrade costly and
time-consuming. Meanwhile, companies must ask,
is it really worth it?

It turns out that Exchange 2007, for all its
incremental improvements, is still plagued by
many of the concerns that dogged its
predecessors, including:

-Performance and backup issues with larger
          mailboxes

     -Closed database architecture driving
          complexity around backup and high
          availability

     -Inefficient storage I/O, driving archiving
          costs and challenges

-Limitations of the Web access client, with
its pre-Web 2.0 UI and flimsy support
for browsers other than Internet Explorer

     -Inefficiencies for mobile device clients,
          especially BlackBerry users (via BES)

As an alternative, the Linux-based Post-Path
Email and Collaboration Server stands out from
the crowd, not only for solving Exchange’s
issues but for being the only alternative that
can drop into existing Microsoft-heavy
environments without disruption or reconfiguration
of any kind. PostPath co-exists seamlessly with
Outlook desktops, Active Directory, in-place
Exchange servers, and third-party applications
like BlackBerry.
