I forget that y'all pay TVA rates for electricity (grin). I'm pretty
sure that out here it's worth replacing them with something modern for
the energy costs alone.

Or, to put it in different terms: last night I was at a local Perl
user's group meeting, and one of the guys there is working on an MPG
meter for his Geo Metro. He's built a device which counts ticks on the
odometer sensor, and then measures the width of the fuel injector
pulses. The final stage, which he is just getting to, is measuring the
voltage of the fuel injector pulses, which can vary depending on the
load of other things on the car's electrical system (part of the
discussion was wondering if he could just measure current, and how to
filter this appropriately.... we range a little bit from Perl in such
meetings).

I pointed out that I had a rough idea of the value of his time on the
open market, and it'd be cheaper for him to just buy a new car with an
MPG gauge in the dash.

But if you think it's economical to support those old machines... ;-)
